Melis Aker and Khris Davis will star in Arena Stage's world premiere production of Charles Randolph-Wright's Love in Afghanistan, to be directed by Lucie Tiberghien. The production is set to run October 11-November 17 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.
The drama tells the story of an emerging American hip-hop artist (Davis) and a high-level Afghan interpreter (Aker) who discover love in war-torn Afghanistan. The production also features Joseph Kamal and Dawn Ursula. Randolph-Wright is the resident playwright at Arena Stage and most recently directed Broadway's Motown The Musical.
The creative team for Love in Afghanistan includes Daniel Conway (scenic design), Kathleen Geldard (costume design), Mark Lanks (lighting design), Elisheba Ittoop (sound design), and Jocelyn Clarke (dramaturg).
To explore the themes of the play, Arena Stage will host a series of panel discussions focusing on Afghan culture, Afghan women's issues, and the potential effects of United States troops leaving the region.
