Taffety Punk Theatre Company’s all-woman ensemble Riot Grrrls will present a staged reading of Anna Christie as part of Arena Stage’s Eugene O’Neill Festival at the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle at the Mead Center on Saturday, March 17 at 8pm and Sunday, March 18 at 5pm. Jessica Lefkow directs.

In Anna Christie, Anna is looking for the father who abandoned her many years before. Despite good intentions, there’s little they have in common, and even less on which they agree. Anna–who was forced to go into prostitution in order to survive on her own–hopes that a life at sea and the love of a sailor will wash her past clean. While the immediate goal of the the Taffety Punk Theatre’s Riot Grrrls is to open up roles to actresses who otherwise would not get to portray them, the all-female twist also presses the audience to see a familiar play in a new light.

Anna Christie will feature Kimberly Gilbert, Leigh Jameson, Tiernan Madorno, Lorraine Ressegger, Maura Suilebhan, and Esther Williamson.
