David Esbjornson to Depart Seattle Rep at End of June 2009

David Esbjornson, who has served as Seattle Repertory Theatre’s artistic director since 2005, has announced that he will not renew his current contract, which will expire June 30, 2009.

Esbjornson is currently represented by Seattle Rep’s How? How? Why? Why? Why?, and has previously directed The Great Gatsby, Tuesdays with Morrie and the world premiere of Ariel Dorfman’s Purgitorio for the theater.

His Broadway directing credits include The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia and The Ride Down Mt. Morgan, as well as the Farrah Fawcett vehicle, Bobbi Boland, which closed in previews. He previously headed New York’s Classic Stage Company, directing many of its productions and winning an Obie for Thérèse Raquin. He was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Iphigenia and Other Daughters, and additional New York credits include The Normal Heart and The Play About the Baby.
