Laurie Metcalf will now perform the full run of American Conservatory Theater’s production of writer-director Jane Anderson’s The Quality of Life, to run October 24-November 23, with an opening set for October 29.

Metcalf, who originated her role in the Geffen Playhouse production of the play, was originally set to share the role with Caroline Lagerfelt, due to a television commitment for Metcalf, which has since been put on hiatus. Lagerfelt, who is returning to her recurring role on Gossip Girl, has stepped down from the previously announced alternate arrangement for the part.

The play concerns two couples confronting loss and survival in the face of explosive circumstances in the aftermath of the fires in the Oakland hills.

As previously announced, the production will also star Dennis Boutsikaris, JoBeth Williams, and Steven Culp. The creative team will include Kent Dorsey (lighting), Donald Eastmen (set), Lydia Tanji (costumes), and Richard Woodbury (sound).
