Patty Gallagher to Replace Marsha Mason in California Shakespeare Theater’s Happy Days

Patty Gallagher will replace Four-time Oscar nominee Marsha Mason in the role of Winnie for California Shakespeare Theater’s production of Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days, scheduled to run August 12-September 6 at the Bruns Amphitheater. A press statement cites “personal reasons” as the cause of Mason’s departure.

Jonathan Moscone will direct the production, which also features Dan Hiatt as Willie. The creative team will includeTodd Rosenthal (set), Meg Neville (costumes), York Kennedy (lighting), and Bradford Chapin (soundscape).

Gallagher is Associate Professor of Theatre Arts at University of California Santa Cruz where she directs courses in physical theatre, mask, Balinese dance, and clown traditions. Hiatt appeared at Cal Shakes in 2008 as the title character in Uncle Vanya, for which he won a BATCC Award.

Mason was featured on Broadway this past season in Impressionism. Her other stage credits include Steel Magnolias, A Feminine Ending, The Good Doctor, The Night of the Iguana, Hecuba and Amazing Grace. Her many film and television credits include The Goodbye Girl, Cinderella Liberty, Only When I Laugh and Chapter Two, Audrey Rose, Promises in the Dark, Max Dugan Returns, Dinner at Eight, Army Wives, and Frasier.

CST is currently presenting Mark Rucker’s production of Private Lives, July 8-August 2; and will also present A Midsummer Night’s Dream, September 16-October 11, to be directed by Aaron Posner.
