La Jolla Playhouse has announced the addition of Blood and Gifts to their 2012/2013 season. Written by J.T. Rogers and directed by Lucie Tiberghien, the play will perform in the Mandell Weiss Forum June 12 - July 8, 2012.

Blood and Gifts tells the story of the secret spy war behind the official Soviet-Afghan War of the 1980s as it follows the character of CIA operative Jim Warnock and his struggles to stop the Soviet Army's destruction of Afghanistan.

Rogers is the author of the plays The Overwhelming, Madagascar, White People, Murmuring in a Dead Tongue and Seeing the Elephant (nominated for the Kesselring Prize for Best New American Play).

Tiberghien's credits include Craig Wright's The Pavilion (Drama Desk nomination for best play, Rattlestick Theater, CATF) and Blind (world premiere at Rattlestick), Augusta (world premiere, CATF), Geometry of Fire (world premiere, Rattlestick Theater, New York Stage and Film), and A Small Melodramatic Story (world premiere, LAByrinth).

The Playhouse's 2012/2013 season also features the world-premiere, commissioned musical Hands on a Hardbody, running April 27 - June 17 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre; An Iliad, running August 11 - September 9 in the Mandell Weiss Forum; and Glengarry Glen Ross, running September 18 - October 21 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre. The Playhouse's final two subscription shows will be announced shortly.
