Tovah Feldshuh will star as Mama Rose in the Bristol Riverside Theatre production of Gypsy, to be presented December 6-January 15, with an opening on December 8. Keith Baker will direct.

Featuring music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Arthur Laurents, the musical is loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous striptease artist, and focuses on her mother, Rose, whose name has become synonymous with “the ultimate show business mother.”

Feldshuh earned Tony Award nominations for her performances in Yentl, Saravà!, Lend Me A Tenor, and Golda’s Balcony. Her other stage credits include Irena’s Vow, Tovah: Out of Her Mind!, Tallulah Hallelujah!, Mining Golda: My Journey to Golda Meir, as well as the cabaret piece, Tovah: In a Nutshell. She received her first Emmy Award for her performance in Holocaust and a second for her work as Danielle Melnick on Law & Order.

The cast will also include Guiding Light star Robert Newman as Herbie, as well as Amanda Rose (Louise), Brittney Lee Hamilton (June), Joe Grandy (Tulsa), Bethe B. Austin (Tessie Tura), Kathryn Kendall (Mazeppa), and Demetria Joyce Bailey (Electra).

The production will also feature local child talents Gaby Bradbury, Riley Kanter, and Claire O’Neill. Other cast members include Rachel Beiswenger, Breanna Pursell, Erika Strasburg and Paul Weagraff.

The creative team will include Nels Anderson (set), Tracy Christensen (costumes), Ryan O’Gara (lighting), Eric Barnes (musical direction), and Kathryn Kendall (choreography).
