Natalie Venetia Belcon, Katy Blake, John Bolton, and Teddy Toye will star in Bill Russell and Peter Melnick’s new musical, The Last Smoker in America, to be presented by the Columbus, Ohio-based Contemporary American Theatre Company (CATCO) at the Riffe Center Studio One Theatre, September 29-October 24. Andy Sandberg will direct, with choreography by AC Ciulla.

This four-character musical comedy is about a dysfunctional family struggling to survive in a world where smoking has recently been outlawed. The musical received a developmental workshop production at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in the fall of 2009. The Ohio run is being billed a “pre-New York engagement.”

The creative team will include Fred Lassen (music supervision), Andrew Resnick (music direction), Charles Corcoran (sets), Jessica Shay (costumes), Jeff Croiter and Grant Yeager (lights), and Bart Fasbender and Dave Wallingford (sound).

Russell received a Tony nomination for Side Show, while Melnick was Drama Desk-nominated for Adrift in Macao.
