Lee Daniels and Nilo Cruz to Develop Film Version of Anna in the Tropics
Academy Award nominee Lee Daniels has signed on to develop and direct a film adaptation of Nilo Cruz’s award-winning Broadway play Anna in the Tropics, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Cruz will collaborate on the script.
The play, which debuted on Broadway in 2003, centers on a family of cigar rollers whose lives are changed by the power of literature. It received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Tony Award nomination for Best Play.
Daniels is best known for directing the film Precious, for which he received an Academy Award nomination.
