Spike Lee's documentary about the Broadway musical Passing Strange will make its world premiere at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, to be held in Park City, Utah, January 15-25, according to Variety.
The festival will open with the animated Australian film Mary and Max, in which theater veterans Philip Seymour Hoffman and Toni Collette will voice the lead roles. Other films of note that will be screened at Sundance include the political thriller Endgame, starring William Hurt and Chiewetel Ejiofor; Duncan Jones' Moon, starring Sam Rockwell; Peter Callahan's drama Against the Current, starring Joseph Fiennes, Justin Kirk, and Mary Tyler Moore; Derrick Martini's Lymelife, starring Alec Baldwin, Kieran Culkin, Timothy Hutton, Cynthia Nixon, and Emma Roberts; and Noah Buschel's detective flick The Missing Person, starring Michael Shannon, Amy Ryan, and Frank Wood.
Films to be shown in competition include Max Mayer's Adam, starring Hugh Dancy, Peter Gallagher, Amy Irving, and Frankie Faison; John Hindman's Arlen Farber, starring Jeff Daniels, Lauren Graham, and Olivia Thirlby; John Krasinki's Brief Interviews with Hideous Men starring Julianne Moore and Dominic Cooper; Sophie Barthes' Cold Souls, starring Paul Giamatti, David Strathairn, and Lauren Ambrose; and Jay DiPietro's Peter and Vandy, starring Jason Ritter.
