The winners of the 2010 1st Irish Festival awards were announced in a ceremony held on October 4 at Lillie’s Irish Victorian Bar.

The biggest winner was the solo show Absolution, which earned awards for performer Owen O’Neill (Best Actor) and for director Rachel O’Riordan. Other awards went to This Is What We Sang, a production of the Belfast-based Kabosh company, which earned Best Production, and Laoisa Sexton was named Best Actress for her performance in The Prophet of Monto.

An audience-chosen award for Best Play went to Guy Walks Into a Bar. In addition, the Mint Theater received a Special Jury Award for its production of Teresa Deevy’s Wife to James Wheelan. The prize acknowledges the contribution made by the Mint in resurrecting the work of this once-popular but mostly forgotten 20th century playwright.
