Barnes & Noble to Close NYC’s Lincoln Triangle Store in January

Barnes & Noble will close its Lincoln Triangle store, on Broadway and 66th Street, at the end of January when its lease expires, according to The New York Times. According to a statement, the company said a proposed recent increase would make extending the lease “economically impossible.”

The store has become well known for hosting numerous theater-oriented book and CD events, as well as its popular “Any Wednesday” and “Cool Mondays” music series. Upcoming appearances this month include Broadway stars Patti LuPone and Elaine Paige.

The company – which is currently up for sale — said it is continuing to search for a new location on the Upper West Side. It already has a store on Broadway and 82nd Street, as well as locations on East 86th Street, Fifth Avenue and 48th Street, and Union Square, among others.
