92nd Street Y Announces 2012 Lyrics and Lyricists Season

The 92nd Street Y has announced the 2012 Lyrics and Lyricists season.

The year will begin with Makin’ Whoopee: Walter Donaldson, Gus Kahn and the Jazz Age, to be offered January 7-9. Robert Kimabll will serve as artistic director for this program, which will showcase the songwriting team of Donaldson and Kahn, whose hits include “Yes Sir, That’s My Baby,” “Love Me or Leave Me,” and “Makin’ Whoopee,” among others. Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks will be among the performers.

Ted Sperling will serve as artistic director of the second offering in the series, Songs of America: From Stephen Foster to Bob Dylan and Beyond (February 11-13). The series will also include In Perfect Harmony: Celebrating the Vocal Group (March 24-26), which will be led by Rob Fisher, the works of Noël Coward and Cole Porter will be celebrated in Mark Waldrop’s Mad Dogs & Educated Fleas: Noël & Cole, A Battle of Wits (May 5-7), and movie music will be the centerpiece of It’s Magic: 90 Years of Songs from Warner Bros. (June 2-4), which will feature Rex Reed as artistic director.
