Last Heroics and The Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabbazz Memorial and Educational Center will present Wole Soyinka’s 1965 comedie noire The Road as part of the 3-day Soyinkafestival, running August 24-26.
The festival will honor the legacy and influence of Soyinka, the first African to win the Nobel Prize in literature. His work has not been seen in New York since the 1987 Broadway production of Death and the King’s Horseman. The Road, first performed in 1965, examines philosophy and art, written in a mix of English and Pidgin.
