Julie Taymor to Direct Inaugural Production in Theatre for a New Audience’s Brooklyn Venue in 2013

Tony Award winner Julie Taymor will direct the inaugural production in Theatre for a New Audience’s new facility in Brooklyn when it opens in the spring of 2013. The name of the production she will direct will be announced at a later date.

Taymor won Tony Awards for her direction and costumes of The Lion King, and most recently served as director and co-book writer for the Broadway production, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. In addition she has directed four plays for Theatre for a New Audience, including Carlo Gozzi’s The Green Bird, a production which was subsequently seen on Broadway. In addition she has directed movie versions of Shakespeare’s TItus Andronicus and The Tempest.

The new Theatre for a New Audience facility is designed by world-renowned architect Hugh Hardy and his team at H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture, and includes a 299-seat, flexible theaterdesigned for the performance of Shakespeare and classic drama. Also in the new building will be Studio spaces of 50 and up to 99 seats for performance, rehearsal and events; a book kiosk, a lobby café, and theatrical support spaces.
