Stage and screen star Corbin Bleu emceed a special event, produced by iTheatrics and ArtsConnection, that brought together students from 20 middle and intermediate New York City Public Schools, who performed at Broadway’s Majestic Theatre on Monday, May 17.

The event was part of a musical theater mentorship program sponsored by The Shubert Foundation, The New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE), and Music Theatre International (MTI). The goal of the program is to restore arts education by building self-sustaining theater programs in public schools with limited arts programming, and to engage as many students as possible in all aspects and areas of the arts.

Bleu is currently playing Usnavi in the Broadway production of In the Heights. He’s best known for the role of basketball player Chad in the television incarnations of High School Musical and the 2008 feature film. His other screen credits include Catch That Kid and Free Style. Also a recording artist, Bleu released his second solo album, Speed of Light, last year.
