Michael Fabiano, Nathan Gunn, Susanna Phillips, et al. Set for Metroplitan Opera’s Free Summer Recital Series

The Metropolitan Opera has announced a wide range of free summer activities which will be offered in parks throughout the city.

In the coming months, the Met will offer a second season of its Summer Recital Series, which will feature six free concerts in all five boroughs, July 12-29. The opening recital will be held at Central Park Summerstage and will feature baritone Nathan Gunn, soprano Susanna Phillips, and tenor Michael Fabiano. Phillips and Fabiano are also slated to perform at Brooklyn Br idge Park on July 20. Other recitals will feature soprano Monica Yunus, tenor Matthew Plenk, and bass-baritone Donovan Singletary, who will appear on at Crotona Park, Bronx (July 15); Tappan Park, Staten Island (July 22); Queens Bridge Park, Queens (July 27); and Jackie Robinson Park, Manhattan (July 29).

The Met will also offer its Summer HD Festival for a second season, featuring screenings of ten acclaimed productions from August 28 – September 6 in Lincoln Center Plaza. Among the works to be shown are three new productions form the 2009-2010 season, including Puccini’s Tosca (August 28), starring Karita Mattila and Marcelo Álvarez; Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann (September 1), directed by Barlett Sher and starring Anna Netrebko and Joseph Calleja; and Bizet’s Carmen (September 6), starring Elena Garanca and Roberto Alagna. Other screenings will include Julie Taymor’s staging of The Magic Flute (August 29); Der Rosenklavier (August 30), starring Renee Fleming (August 30); and Franco Zeffirelli’s production of La Boheme (September 2).
