Diane Paulus will direct a concert version of the musical The Capeman, featuring music by Paul Simon, with book and lyrics by Simon and Derek Walcott. It will be presented free-of-charge for three performances at the Delacorte Theater, August 14-16 at 8pm.

Originally on Broadway in 1998, the musical tells the true story of a Nuyorican street gang member whose story exploded on to the front pages of the tabloids in 1959, ultimately revealing the cultural and racial tensions beneath the surface of New York in that era.

Sergio Trujillo will provide choreography and Grammy Award winner Oscar Hernandez and a 12-piece orchestra will play Simon’s score. Casting and full creative team will be announced at a later date.

Free tickets will be distributed the day of the show in person at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park beginning at 1pm, or by registering for Virtual Ticketing online at ShakespeareInThePark.org.
