Estelle Parsons will take part in Naomi Conn Liebler’s Reading (Between) the Lines: Shakespeare’s Old Ladies to be offered on April 14 at 1:15pm at the New York Public Library. The event is part of the New York Public Library Celebrates Shakespeare series.

In the lecture, Liebler will explore the dignity and indignity with which Shakespeare imbues his older female characters, such as the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet, the Duchess of York in Richard II, Queen Margaret in Richard III and the Countess of Rossillon in All’s Well That Ends Well. Parsons will offer readings from the plays including Richard III.

Parsons is currently appearing in Good People on Broadway and recently starred in the West End in Deathtrap. She received Tony Award nominations for her performances in Morning’s at Seven, Miss Margarida’s Way, And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little, and The Seven Descents of Myrtle. In addition, she won an Oscar for her performance in Bonnie and Clyde and may be most widely known for her portrayal of Beverly Harris on television’s Roseanne.

Other offerings in the series will include The End of Shakespeare’s Sonnets (April 11), hamletworks.org for everyone (April 12), Shakespeare’s Mappery (April 13), and Hamlet: Poetry That Doesn’t Matter (April 15).
