The French Institute Alliance Française has announced two upcoming theater presentations to be offered at Florence Gould Hall, both New York premieres.

On February 24, Carole Bouquet will perform Lettres à Génica, a reading of letters by the French poet and playwright Antonin Artaud to his love, Romanian actress Génica Athanasiou, with whom he worked at Théâtre de l’Atelier. In the missives, which Artaud dubbed “mental poetry,” he writes not only of his love, but also of the surrealists he worked with, the theater that was so important to him and that he hoped to revolutionize, and of his daily life.

Bouquet’s many film credits include That Obscure Object of Desire (Cet obscur objet du désir), For Your Eyes Only, Day of the Idiots, Double Gentlemen (Double messieurs), and Bunker Palace Hotel.

In addition, Francis Huster will present his award-winning adaptation of Nobel Laureate Albert Camus’ La Peste, which tells the story of medical workers finding solidarity in their labor as the Algerian city of Oran is swept by a plague, on March 3. In addition to his many appearances with La Comédie Française, Huster founded the theater troupe Compagnie Francis Huster, and has been seen in such films as The Dinner Game (Le dîner de cons).
