Saycon Sengbloh, who originated the role of Sandra Iszadore in the Broadway production of the musical Fela!, will reprise her performance during the show’s current national tour stop at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. She will perform January 1-8, reuniting with original star Sahr Ngaujah as Fela Kuti.

The musical is about Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s controversial life as artist, political activist, and revolutionary musician. The show is directed and choreographed by Bill T. Jones, with a book by Jim Lewis and Jones, and plays the Ahmanson through January 22.

Following her appearance in Fela!, Sengbloh will return to New York for rehearsals of the Signature Theatre Company’s production of Hurt Village, written by Katori Hall, which opens in February.
