Broadway Revival of Bubbling Brown Sugar Aiming for 2011

Producer Ashton Springer has announced plans for a Broadway revival of the musical Bubbling Brown Sugar. The production, which will have a new book by Michael Holgate, is aiming for a New York opening in the fall or early winter, following a national tour.

With an original book by Leigh Mitchell, based on a concept by Rosetta LeNoire, the show is a tribute to such artists as Duke Ellington, Eubie Blake, and Cab Calloway. When it premiered in 1976, it received three Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Musical and Billy Wilson for Best Choreography.

Wilson will choreograph the revival, which will also feature Danny Holgate’s original orchestrations. Casting and creative team will be announced at later date.
