Peter Brook has announced plans to retire from his position as co-director of Parisian company, Theatre des Bouffes du Nord, according to The New York Times.

The Times reports that he and co-director Micheline Rosan will step down from their leadership positions in 2010, and that they will be succeeded by Olivier Mantei, director of the Opera-Comique, and theater entrepreneur Olivier Poubelle.

Brook has been associated with the theater since 1974. He brought the Theatre des Bouffes du Nord production of The Grand Inquisitor — which he directed — to New York earlier this season. Brook has directed over 70 productions in London, Paris, and New York, with notable productions including Marat/Sade, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Mahabharata.
