Andrew Samonsky to Be South Pacific‘s New Lieutenant Cable

Beginning January 6, Andrew Samonsky will take over the role of Lieutenant Joe Cable in the Broadway production of South Pacific, currently at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. He replaces departing star Matthew Morrison. On the same date, Eric Anderson will assume the role of Stewpot, while Matt Caplan takes over as Professor.

Bartlett Sher directs this musical, based on James Michener’s Tales of the South Pacific, and featuring music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, and a book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan. Ted Sperling conducts a 30-piece orchestra performing the original 1949 orchestrations by Robert Russell Bennett and dance and incidental music arranged by Trude Rittmann.

Samonsky is one of the original cast members of this Lincoln Center Theater production, playing Lieutenant Eustis Carmichael and understudying Morrison as Cable. Additional credits include White Christmas and Disney’s On The Record.

The production currently stars Kelli O’Hara as Ensign Nellie Forbush and David Pittsinger as Emile de Becque with Danny Burstein, Loretta Ables Sayre, Murphy Guyer, Sean Cullen, Luka Kain, Michael Arnold, Becca Ayers, Wendi Bergamini, Genson Blimline, Charlie Brady, Christian Carter, Eric L. Christian, Helmar Augustus Cooper, Margot de la Barre, Christian Delcroix, Laura Marie Duncan, Mike Evariste, Julie Foldesi, Rob Gallagher, Maryann Hu, Zachary James, Robert Lenzi, Deborah Lew, Peter Lockyear, Garrett Long, Nick Mayo, Liz McCartney, George Merrick, William Michals, Kimber Monroe, George Psomas, Greg Roderick, and Jerold E. Solomon.
