Pop star Cyndi Lauper has replaced Edie Falco as Jenny in the cast of the Roundabout Theatre Company's upcoming production of The Threepenny Opera, scheduled to run March 24-June 11 at Studio 54.

As previously announced, Falco withdrew due to scheduling conflicts with her TV series, The Sopranos. Alan Cumming, Jim Dale, Ana Gasteyer, and Nellie McKay will also star in this new production of the epoch-making Bertolt Brecht-Kurt Weill musical, which will be directed by Scott Elliott.The design team for the show includes Derek McLane (sets), Isaac Mizrahi (costumes), and Jason Lyons (lighting).

The Threepenny Opera, an adaptation of John Gay's The Beggar Opera, is a dark satire of respectable society that brings audiences into the underworld of the dapper criminal Mack The Knife (Cumming) and his wry love affair with Polly Peachum (McKay). The musical first played on Broadway in 1933 after premiering in Germany. It later had a lengthy Off-Broadway run from 1955 to 1961and was revived twice on Broadway, in 1976 and 1989.

Lauper is a Grammy Award winner, best known for her recordings of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," "Time After Time," and "True Colors." She recently recorded At Last, a well-received album of standards. Her acting credits include the films Vibes and Life With Mikey, and a guest spot on the TV series Mad About You for which she won an Emmy Award.
