Hairspray and Smash Composer/Lyricist Marc Shaiman to Be Honored by The New York Pops

Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist Marc Shaiman (Hairspray) will be honored by The New York Pops in celebration of the orchestra's 31st birthday on Monday, April 28, with a concert at Carnegie Hall. The evening, which will also feature a black-tie dinner and dance at the Mandarin Oriental New York, also honors Paul J. Massey Jr., the CEO and founding partner of Massey Knakal Realty Services.
With Scott Wittman, Shaiman is the author of the musicals Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, Catch Me If You Can, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as songs for the NBC television series Smash, including the Emmy and Grammy Award-nominated "Let Me Be Your Star." A five-time Academy Award nominee, Shaiman composed scores and original songs for the films Sleepless in Seattle, The First Wives Club, Patch Adams, The American President, and South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
New York Pops Musical Director Steven Reineke will conduct the April 28 concert, with guest artists to be announced in the coming months.
