New York Public Library to Host Katharine Hepburn: Rebel Chic Panel

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts is hosting a free program, Katharine Hepburn: Rebel Chic, on Thursday, October 18 at 6pm in the Bruno Walter Auditorium.

The event is being held in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition, Katharine Hepburn: Dressed for Stage and Screen, which will be on display in the Library’s Donald and Mary Oenslager Gallery through January 12.

The October 18 program will feature Barbara Cohen-Stratyner, Nancy McDonell, Judy Samelson, Kohle Yohannan – contributors to the book, Katharine Hepburn, Rebel Chic — and moderator Jean Druesedow, all of whom will discuss Hepburn’s dual roles as hard-working actress and fashion icon.

The exhibition includes over 40 costumes and clothing items from Hepburn’s personal collection, including gowns from The Philadelphia Story, Adam’s Rib, and Long Day’s Journey into Night, and casual modern dress from Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and On Golden Pond.
