Sing for Hope 2010 Gala: An American Songbook was held on Thursday, October 14 at 583 Park Avenue. The event raised money for the organization, which brings mobilizes professional singers, musicians, actors to help benefit schools, hospitals, and other institutions. Proceeds will also benefit “Sing for Hope Street Pianos,” a public art installation.
The event, which was hosted by Broadway star Tituss Burgess, honored philanthropist Ronald Perelman; arts executive Ann Ziff, who was paid tribute to by opera superstar Renee Fleming, and legendary singer Tony Bennett. As part of the evening, Bennett autographed a special Steinway piano, which was auctioned off for $47,500.
The evening featured entertainment from Nathan Gunn, Roger Bart, and Janine LaManna, along with Glenn Seven Allen, Jennifer Aylmer, Javier Baca, Alyson Cambridge, Blythe Gaissert, Julie Gunn, Christopher Herbert, Kate Lindsey, Chau-Ging Thi Nguyen, Michael Slattery, Camille Zamora, and the Sing for Hope Young Arts Ensemble.
Among the event’s other guests was talk show hostess Martha Stewart, whose company Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, helped sponsor the event; artist Sophie Matisse, and New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein.
