HERE and the Hip-Hop Theater Festival, along with Collective Consciousness Theatre, will present How to Break, a new play by Aaron Jafferies and members of The Mixing Texts Collective, Christopher V. Edwards, Kwikstep, Rokafella, Adam Matta, Yako 440, and Rebecca Hart. The work, which Edwards will direct, will run October 18-November 4.

The work, which blends beat-boxing, breaking, popping and locking, and multimedia graffiti art, follows a socially awkward pediatric hematologist, a music therapist, and a nurse with a beat-boxing problem, as they try not to screw up two hospitalized teenagers, one with sickle cell anemia, the other with leukemia.

How to Break features performances by Roberta Burke, Amber Williams, and Yako 440. Additional casting will be announced in the future. The creative team includes Nick Vaughan (scenic design), Arnulfo Maldonado (costume design), Lucretia Briceno (lighting design), Room 404 Media (video design), and Enrique “Part One” Torres (graffiti art).
