The cast and creative team of Kinky Boots met the press and performed selections from the new musical on Friday, September 14 at the New 42nd Street Studios. Directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, the production begins its pre-Broadway engagement at Chicago's Bank of America Theatre on October 2. It starts previews in New York at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on March 5 in advance of an April 4 opening.
Featuring a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper, the show is based on the 2005 British film of the same name and centers on how Charlie Price works to save his family's shoe factory in Northern England by enlisting the help of a fabulous drag performer named Lola.
Stark Sands and Billy Porter lead the company as Charlie and Lola. The cast also includes Annaleigh Ashford, Celina Carvajal, Daniel Sherman, Marcus Neville, Paul Canaan, Kevin Smith Kirkwood, Kyle Taylor Parker, Kyle Post, Charlie Sutton, Joey Taranto, Andy Kelso, Tory Ross, Jennifer Perry, Josh Caggiano, Aaron Bantum, Adinah Alexander, Eric Anderson, Eugene Barry-Hill, Stephen Berger, Caroline Bowman, Sandra DeNise, Eric Leviton, Ellyn Marie Marsh, John Jeffrey Martin, Nathan Peck, Robert Pendilla, Lucia Spina, Sebastian Hedges Thomas, Marquise Neal, and Clifton Oliver.
The creative team includes David Rockwell (scenic design), Gregg Barnes (costume design), Kenneth Posner (lighting design), John Shivers (sound design), Josh Marquette (hair design), and Randy Houston Mercer (make-up design), with musical supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Stephen Oremus.
