On Wednesday, September 1, the casts of Roundabout Theatre Company’s productions of
Brief Encounter and The Language Archive greeted members of the press at their respective rehearsals.

The Language Archives (page 1), set to play at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre, will have Mark Brokaw at the helm. In the play, George is a man consumed with preserving and documenting the dying languages of far-flung cultures. Closer to home, though, language is failing him. He doesn’t know what to say to his wife, Mary, to keep her from leaving him, and he doesn’t recognize the deep feelings that his lab assistant, Emma, has for him. The cast features Betty Gilpin, John Horton, Jayne Houdyshell, Matt Letscher, and Heidi Schreck.

Brief Encounter (page 2), which will play at Broadway’s Studio 54, was adapted and directed by Emma Rice. it combines elements of Noël Coward’s screenplay, and the one act play on which it was based, with song, dance and Technicolor displays of emotion. The cast will feature Joseph Alessi, Dorothy Atkinson, Damon Daunno, Gabriel Ebert, Edward Jay, Annette McLaughlin, Adam Pleeth, Tristan Sturrock, and Hannah Yelland.
