Motown The Musical has announced that it will play its final performance at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on January 18, 2015. The musical, which opened on April 14, 2013, will not be gone for good, however. Motown has also announced that it will return to Broadway in a Nederlander theater in July 2016.

"By closing in January, 2015, we have an opportunity to use the production assets from Broadway for the UK production next year," explained producer Kevin McCollum in a statement. "We are pleased to continue our great relationship with the Nederlander Organization for the next chapter of Motown The Musical on Broadway when we will return with a new production, our fourth, in the summer of 2016."

The first National Tour of Motown opened this spring and is currently making stops in major markets across the U.S. The U.K. production is planned for the summer of 2015.

Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, Motown The Musical follows the life of Berry Gordy from his childhood to his career as the music impresario who launched the careers of Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder, among many others.
