Julie Taymor Set for Monday Nights at La MaMa on June 4

Tony-winning and Academy Award-nominated director Julie Taymor is set for the final evening of Monday Nights at La MaMa, which features La MaMa artists in discussions about their careers and their work at La MaMa. Taymor will be present June 4 at 7:30pm at the Ellen Stewart Theatre.

Moderated by producing director of Music-Theatre Group Diane Wondisford, the evening will include video clips from Taymor’s productions as well as a discussion of her illustrious career and her work with La MaMa.

Taymor won Tony Awards for her direction and costumes of The Lion King and served as director and co-book writer for Broadway’s Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. In addition she has directed four plays for Theatre for a New Audience, including Carlo Gozzi’s The Green Bird, a production which was subsequently seen on Broadway. In addition she has directed movie versions of Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus and The Tempest.
