The award-winning musical In the Heights will close at its Off-Broadway home, 37 Arts, on July 15 and will open on Broadway sometime during the 2007-2008 season at a theater yet to be announced. Casting for the Broadway production will also be announced at a later date.

Directed by Thomas Kail and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, the show has music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda -- who also stars as Usnavi -- and a book by Quiara Alegria Hudes. In the Heights tells the story of three generations as they struggle to forge an identity in Washington Heights, a neighborhood on the brink of transition.

The musical has already won numerous awards, including the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical (in a tie with Spring Awakening), the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical, Drama Desk awards for Outstanding Ensemble and Outstanding Choreography, and the Obie Award for Miranda's music and lyrics.

In their TheaterMania review of In the Heights, Barbara & Scott Siegel wrote: "Miranda's music is flavorful, sometimes even powerful, and his lyrics are a triumph; not only do they drive the story and establish and develop character, they also represent a magnificent blend of people's poetry and the dynamic essence of musical theater."
