Noah Bean, Mark Blum, Zoe Caldwell, Kathy McCafferty, Marian Seldes, Victor Slezak, Janet Zarish, and other notables will participate in the 2006 edition of the Bay Street Theatre’s annual Summer Reading Series.

Blum, Slezak and Zarish will star in Norman Kline’s It Happened In New Marvelous, a political satire that will kick off the series on June 4, directed by Thomas Caruso. It will be followed by Ellen M. Violet’s Dorothy Parker Gets The Last Word on July 23, to feature Bean, Caldwell, McCafferty, and Seldes under the direction of Tony Harvey. The series will finish on August 27 with Frank McGuiness’s Gates of Gold, to be directed by Jack Hofsiss with a cast yet to be determined.

Readings in past series have included works by Jon Robin Baitz, Joan Ackerman, Aaron Sorkin, Roger Rosenblatt, James Kirkwood, Charles Busch, and others. Several plays previously read at Bay Street have been tapped for presentation on the mainstage, including Gross Points (produced there in 2001) and Eudora Welty (coming in October 2006).
