Carnegie Hall launched its year-long 120th birthday celebration on Tuesday, April 12 with a benefit gala event hosted by renowned singer/songwriter James Taylor in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage. The gala raised over $2.8 million in support of Carnegie Hall’s artistic and education programming.
The evening, which paid tribute to Carnegie Hall’s illustrious history, featured special guests Barbara Cook, Steve Martin, Bette Midler, Kevin Pollak, Dianne Reeves, Sting, and members of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, who paid homage to the Hall’s diverse history with pop, Broadway, folk, jazz, comedy, and spoken word selections. There was also a special appearance by former U.S. President Bill Clinton.
The evening included a pre-concert reception in Carnegie Hall’s Rohatyn Room and an after-party dinner at The Museum of Modern Art.
