The Roundabout Theatre Company will present the New York premiere of Tin Pan Alley Rag, Off-Broadway at its Laura Pels Theatre beginning June 12, with an opening set for July 14. Stafford Arima will direct.

Written by Mark Saltzman, with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin & Scott Joplin, the show tells the story of an imagined meeting of two of America’s greatest musicians, composer Scott Joplin and songwriter Irving Berlin. The score includes such classic songs as Berlin’s “I Love a Piano,” “Play a Simple Melody,” and “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” and Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag” and “The Entertainer.”

The production will feature choreography by Liza Gennaro and musical direction by Michael Patrick Walker. Additional cast and design team members will be announced at a later date.

Arima received an Olivier Award nomination for his direction of Ragtime in the West End, and directed the Off-Broadway hit, Altar Boyz. Additional credits include The Princess and the Black-Eyed Pea (San Diego Rep.); Candide (San Francisco Symphony); Ace (The Old Globe); and Bright Lights, Big City (Prince Music Theater).
