Adam McKinney’s HaMapah to Perform at JCC of Manhattan

DNAWORKS will present HaMapah, conceived and performed by Adam McKinney, at the Jewish Community Center of Manhattan, on March 31 and April 2, at 8pm. Daniel Banks will direct.

In exploring his African, Jewish, and Native American heritages, McKinney weaves contemporary dance with archival material, personal interviews, Yiddish and American songs, and video set to traditional, contemporary, and classical music.

The production will feature original lighting design by Lenore Doxsee, video editing by Michael Billow, and costume by Irina Kruzhilina.

As part of the program, immediately following the performance, McKinney and Banks, who are also the co-directors of DNAWORKS, will lead a community dialogue with the audience about the core ideas of the piece.
