Ryan Murphy's Normal Heart Film Announces HBO Airdate

HBO has announced that Ryan Murphy's television film adaptation of Larry Kramer's drama The Normal Heart will premiere at 9pm on Sunday, May 25.

With a screenplay by playwright Kramer and direction by Murphy, the film stars Mark Ruffalo as Ned Weeks, an activist determined to get New York City to recognize the onset of a mysterious illness, which would later become known as AIDS.

Also featured in the film are Matt Bomer as Ned's lover, Felix, Julia Roberts as Dr. Emma Brookner, Taylor Kitsch as Bruce Niles, Jim Parsons as Tommy Boatwright, Alfred Molina as Ben Weeks, Joe Mantello as Mickey Marcus, Jonathan Groff as Craig, Denis O'Hare as Hiram Keebler, Stephen Spinella as Sanford, Corey Stoll as John Bower, Finn Wittrock as Albert, and BD Wong as Buzzy.

Inspired by true events in Kramer's life that led to the formation of Gay Men's Health Crisis, The Normal Heart premiered at the Public Theater in 1985 and won a 2011 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.
