York Theatre Company to Celebrate Tom Jones with Mufti Festival

The York Theatre Company will celebrate librettist and lyricist Tom Jones with a spring series, Musicals in Mufti: The Tom Jones Festival, at The York Theatre at Saint Peter’s.

The festival will feature will kick off with The Show Goes On (March 16-18), a portfolio of theater songs by Jones and Harvey Schmidt, directed by Pamela Hunt with music direction by Michael Rice. The presentation will feature Jones and Susan Watson.

Next will be Roadside (March 30- April 1), featuring book and lyrics by Jones, and music by Schmidt. David Glenn Armstrong will direct this Southwestern love story of mythic proportions, based on a play by Lynn Riggs.

Jones will again directly participate in the festival with Story by Story: A Conversation with Tom Jones on Wednesday, April 4.

Carl Andress will direct the Mufti staging of Harold and Maude (April 13-15), with book and lyrics by Jones, and music by Joseph Thalken. This musical adaptation of the 1971 cult-classic film is based on the screenplay by Colin Higgins, and tells the story of what some call the quintessential May-December romance.

Michael Montel will helm Colette Collage (April 27-29), with book and lyrics by Jones, and music by Schmidt. The joys, fears and loves of the celebrated French writer Colette are at the center of this bio-musical.

The festival will conclude with The Game of Love (May 11-13), featuring book and lyrics by Jones, music by Jacques Offenbach, with arrangements and additional music by Nancy Ford, based on The Anatol Plays by Arthur Schnitzler. West Hyler will direct, with music direction by Ford.
