Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight and Tony Award winner Cynthia Nixon will co-host the 2007 Village Voice Obie Awards, honoring the best of Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway, on Monday, May 21 at NYU’s Skirball Center.

With informal categories that change annually, the Obie Awards recognize persons and productions of excellence. Unlike most theater awards, they do not have nominations; moreover, the judges may give several Obies in each category, and may even invent new categories to reward artistic merit.

This season’s committee of judges includes Voice critic Michael Feingold (chairperson); playwright-director Adam Rapp; writer-director Ain Gordon; New York magazine critic Jeremy McCarter; Anne Dennin, executive director of PS 122; playwright-composer Kirsten Childs; and Voice theater critic Alexis Soleski.

Knight plays Dr. George O’Malley on Grey’s Anatomy, the hit ABC-TV series that recently won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Ensemble. His stage credits include Noises Off, Tartuffe, Amadeus, Ah, Wilderness!, and Boy.

Nixon won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Actress in a play for her performance in Rabbit Hole. Her many New York stage credits include Hurlyburly, The Real Thing, The Women, Indiscretions, and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. She is best known for her role of Miranda Hobbes on Sex and the City, for which she won an Emmy Award.
