Leslie Uggams to Star in A Raisin in the Sun Reading

Leslie Uggams will star as Lena Younger in a reading of Lorraine Hansberry’s classic drama A Raisin in the Sun at 7pm on Monday, February 27 at Boston’s Shubert Theater.

The reading is part of the third annual American Voices: Drama, Dialogue, Downtown series, presented by the Wang Center for the Performing Arts and the Poduska Family Foundation, and will include a post-performance question and answer session. It will be directed by Steven Maler, and also feature Jacqui Parker, Vincent Siders, Darius Williams, Derek Jackson, and John Thompson.

Uggams won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for Hallelujah, Baby! and has also been seen on Broadway in Anything Goes, Blues in the Night, and the recent revival of On Golden Pond. She is also an Emmy-winning actress and popular recording artist.

The series will continue on March 13 with a reading of Tennessee Williams’ The Night of the Iguana. Tickets for each reading are $10/$5 for students and seniors. For more information, visit www.wangcenter.org.
