The Drama Desk Awards, Presented by TheaterMania, Will Come to The Town Hall This June

Nominees for the annual New York theater accolade will be announced at 54 Below on April 25.

The 59th Annual Drama Desk Awards, presented by TheaterMania, will take place on Sunday, June 1, at 8pm at The Town Hall in New York City. TheaterMania CEO and Managing Executive Producer of the Drama Desk Awards Gretchen Shugart and Drama Desk President Isa Goldberg announced the official plans for the awards ceremony this morning. Joey Parnes Productions will produce and manage the show, written by Bill Rosenfield and directed by Jack Cummings III (cofounder and artistic director of Transport Group).

The Drama Desk Awards annually honor outstanding achievement by theater artists throughout the New York City community. "We are honored that TheaterMania will again present the Drama Desk Awards at New York's famed Town Hall," Shugart commented. "Live theater is the heartbeat of New York City and it is exciting that audience members and webcast viewers around the globe can experience this awards show which celebrates excellence across Broadway, off-, and off-off Broadway."

"In the expanding landscape of New York theater, Drama Desk members continue to illuminate the vitality and diversity of productions throughout our city," Goldberg added. "The Drama Desk proudly acknowledges this season's nominators, each of whom brings an extraordinary breadth of knowledge and experience to our awards."

The 2013-2014 Drama Desk Nominating Committee includes Barbara Siegel (chairperson), Morgan Jenness, Samuel L. Leiter, Sandy MacDonald, Chad McArver, Martha Wade Steketee, and James Wilson.

The Drama Desk nominations will be announced at 11am on Friday, April 25, at 54 Below during a news conference to be live-streamed on TheaterMania.com.
