West Side Story CD Wins Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album; Green Day, Heather Headley, Steve Martin Among Winners

The recording of the current Broadway revival of West Side Story has been named Best Musical Show Album at the 2010 Grammy Awards on Sunday, January 31 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The ceremony was aired live on CBS-TV.

Beyonce Knowles, who starred in the film version of Dreamgirls, won six Grammys, the most by any female in history, including Song of the Year. Taylor Swift won four awards, including Album of the Year.

Green Day, writers of the upcoming Broadway show American Idiot, won Best Rock Album for 21st Century Breakdown. Other winners included Tony Award winner Heather Headley for Best Contemporary R&B Album for Audience for One, actor and writer Steve Marttin for Best Bluegrass Album for The Crow, Fela producer Jay-Z for Best Rap Solo Performance for D.O.A. and for Best Rap Sung Collaboration for Run This Town, and Bombay Dreams composer A.R. Rahman who also earned two awards — one for the song Jai Ho from the film Slumdog Millionaire and one for producing the film’s soundtrack.

Grammy Awards have also been presented to India Arie, Black Eyed Peas, Michael Buble, Stephen Colbert, Kurt Elling, Eminem, Bela Felck, Renee Fleming, Michael J, Fox, Jamie Foxx, Lady Antebellum, Lady Gaga, James Levine,Yo-Yo Ma, Ziggy Marley, Maxwell, Jason Mraz, Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen, The Zac Brown Band, Keith Urban, Loudon Wainwright III, Kanye West, and Buckwheat Zydeco.
