The Public Theater, in association with the LAByrinth Theater Company, has announced the line-up for shows to be featured in its 2009 Public LAB series, devoted to new works in stripped-down productions.

The 2009 season will kick off with the U.S. premiere of writer/performer Darrell Dennis’ Tales of an Urban Indian (February 20-March 15), to be directed by Herbie Barnes. This semi-autobiographical tale is about a young Indian man who moves from living life on the “Rez” to navigating the mean streets of Vancouver’s east side.

Raúl Castillo’s Knives and Other Sharp Objects will make its world premiere, directed by Felix Solis, March 27-April 19. In the play, cultures collide in Texas when two Latina sisters are shipped off to live with their more well-heeled family.

A concert production of the musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, written by Alex Timbers with music and lyrics by Michael Friedman, will be presented May 5-24. The satirical epic takes a sharp, irreverent look at America’s seventh president, Andrew Jackson.

The world premiere of a new play by Suzan-Lori Parks will be presented June 5-28. Additional details on this project will be announced at a later date.
