Ed Begley Jr., JoBeth Williams, and Stephanie Zimbalist will join the previously announced Martin Sheen in a benefit reading of Samuel Shem and Janet Surrey’s play, Bill W. and Dr. Bob, at the Geffen Playhouse on Monday, June 27 at 8pm. Jenny Sullivan will direct, and additional casting will be announced at a later date.
The play recounts the story of Bill Wilson and Dr. Robert Smith, two men whose friendship ultimately led to the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous.
The evening is a joint fundraiser for the Geffen Playhouse and Hazelden, a non-profit leader in addiction treatment. It will also feature a post-show discussion with the cast and playwrights and a dessert reception.
