Harvey Fierstein's Casa Valentina to Make West Coast Premiere

Pasadena Playhouse has announced the productions set for its 2015-16 season.

Josefina López's award-winning comedy Real Women Have Curves will open the season. Directed by Seema Sueko, the play (the basis for the film of the same name starring America Ferrera) offers a microcosm of the Latina immigrant experience, celebrating real women's bodies, the power of women, and the incredible bond that happens when women work together. Performances will run from September 8-October 4 with an official opening set for September 13.

The world-premiere musical Breaking Through will follow, running from October 27-November 22 with an official November 1 opening. The production features a score by Emmy award-winning songwriter and producer Cliff Downs and Katie Kahanovitz, with a book by Kirsten Guenther. Sheldon Epps will direct.

Peter Pan and Tinkerbell A Pirate Christmas will come to the theater for the holiday season, running from December 9-January 3, 2016. Created in the style of the traditional British panto, the show is written by Kris Lythgoe with direction by Bonnie Lythgoe, musical direction by Michael Orland, and choreography by Spencer Liff.

Trey Ellis and Ricardo Khan's Fly, produced in association with Crossroads Theatre Company. will then run from January 26-February 21, 2016, with an official January 31 opening. The play tells the story of the first African-American Army Air Corp fighters known as the Tuskegee Airmen who flew over the skies of Europe and North Africa during World War II. The eight-person cast will feature dancer "Tap Griot."

Fraiser cocreator David Lee will then direct the West Coast premiere of Harvey Fierstein's Tony-nominated drama Casa Valentina. Performances will begin March 15, 2016, in advance of a March 20 opening, and will run through April 10. Set in the Catskills in 1962, the play tells the story of a group of heterosexual men who escape to a bungalow colony to escape their male identities.

The Pasadena season will close with the Artistic Director's Choice, running from May 31-June 26, 2016, with an official June 5 opening. The title will be announced in the coming months.
