Nine‘s Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Maury Yeston Receive Golden Globe Nominations

The nominations for the Golden Globe Awards have been announced. The awards will be presented in a ceremony to be held at the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom on January 17 and to be broadcast on NBC.

Rob Marshall’s movie version of the musical Nine has received five nominations, including one for Best Musical or Comedy. Also nominated are Daniel Day-Lewis in the best Actor, Musical or Comedy category, Marion Cotillard as Best Actress in a musical or comedy and Penelope Cruz as Best Supporting Actress in a musical or comedy. Maury Yeston’s song “Cinema Italiano” is one of the five tunes nominated for in the Original Song category.

Also nominated as Best Musical or Comedy are (500) Days of Summer, The Hangover, It’s Complicated, and Julie and Julia. The films nominated as Best Drama are Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, and Up In the Air, which received a total of six nominations, including one for leading man George Clooney.

From television, FOX’s hit series Glee has received a nomination as Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. The show’s also picked up nominations for its stars Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, and Jane Lynch.

Other notable film nominations include two for Meryl Streep for Best Actress, Musical or Comedy for her work in Julie and Julia and It’s Complicated. The category is rounded out by Sandra Bullock, who is nominated for The Proposal. Bullock has a second nomination in the Best Actress, Drama category for her performance in The Blind Side.

Other theater veterans who have received Golden Globe nominations in film categories this year include Jeff Bridges, Colin Firth, Morgan Freeman, Marvin Hamlisch, Woody Harrelson, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Carey Mulligan, Christopher Plummer, Julia Roberts, Michael Stuhlbarg, Quentin Tarantino, and Stanley Tucci.

Theater notables nominated for their work on television include Joan Allen, Alec Baldwin, Kenneth Branagh, Glenn Close, Toni Collette, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Emerson, Edie Falco, Michael C. Hall, Neil Patrick Harris, William Hurt, Jeremy Irons, Jessica Lange, John Lithgow, Julianna Margulies, Janet McTeer, Anna Paquin, Jeremy Piven, Kyra Sedgwick, and Sigourney Weaver.
