The musical is based on the enduring account of a young female scholar's rise to the papacy, and is produced by Michael Butler (one of the original producers of Broadway's Hair).

The cast will feature Whitney Avalon (Joan), Douglas Barry (Louis II), Cristina Dohmen (Martine), Suzanne Nichols (Lucretia), Bryce Blue (Lucius), Allie Costa (Young Joan), Fernando Orozco, Jr. (Anastasius), and Anthony Gruppuso (Nicholas). The creative team will include Randy Bowser (musical arrangements), Brian Murphy (musical direction), Shon LeBlanc (costume designer), and Jeremy Pivnick (lighting designer).
