Cirque du Soleil to Create Show for L.A.’s Kodak Theatre

Canadian entertainment giant Cirque du Soleil will create a show that will play year-round at L.A.’s Kodak Theater for 10 years, beginning in 2010. The show, which will feature a cast of 75 artists, will focus on the subject of Hollywood, according to founder Guy Laliberté.

The production, which will cost approximately $300 million, will play 368 performances per year; however, Cirque will take off the month of February so the Kodak can still host the Academy Awards. The 3,400-seat house, designed by David Rockwell, has functioned as a rental house since opening in 2001, a policy that will stop once Cirque du Soleil moves in.

Cirque du Soleil is currently presenting 15 shows around the world, including Wintuk in New York City and numerous shows in Las Vegas, including O, Zumanity, Ka, and LOVE. The company has also announced plans to open new shows in Tokyo and Macao next year.
